What exactly is the Chula Test CU-TFL? Is the Thai language test worth taking?

When learning a language, certification tests often come to mind. For English, there are TOEIC and TOEFL; for Japanese, there is JLPT. Is there a related certification for Thai? Previously, I talked about why I started learning Thai, and today I will discuss Thai language certification. The answer is yes, there are three main certifications: Chulalongkorn University's CU-TFL Songkhla University's TP-TFL The Thai Language Proficiency Test jointly offered by Wenzao University and Chiang Mai University. The most well-known is Chulalongkorn University's CU-TFL, and this article will mainly share about CU-TFL. What does CU-TFL test? It is divided into three parts: listening + reading, writing, and speaking. You can register for them separately; you don't have to register for all at once. Unlike other tests that are divided by levels of difficulty, CU-TFL determines your level based on your score after the test. There are five levels in total: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Superior, and Distinguished. Is it worth taking? My motivation was simple: I just wanted to know my Thai proficiency and give myself motivation to study Thai. Whether it is worth it depends on your motivation and purpose. CU-TFL is officially recognized by Thailand as proof of Thai language ability and can be used for government-funded study abroad or job applications in Thailand. However, if you want to enhance your resume for work in Taiwan, honestly, the effect might be limited.
